Evacuation
I am asleep in bed. Someone makes a loud, persistent knock on the door. I wake up, and Ru answers it. It is a fireman in a gas mask. He says, "You have to evacuate immediately." The fist thought that crosses my mind is, "Shit! Its a terrorist attack!" Because here in California we have commercials running every few minutes on the telly saying, "You need to have a plan in case of a terrorist attack...etc..." With a little girl eating cheerios all alone in her house. No, a major gas line broke. I bolted out in my PJs and went and got Mar and Marissa. They were asleep. "Wake up now!" I said, "We're getting out of here." The whole place reeked of gas. The road workers blocked off the whole road and part of the strip mall. They tried to contain us in the club house, but I refused, saying, "Ummm... I don't know about you guys, but if this place explodes I don't want to be here to witness it." Mar, Marissa, and I jumped the fence, and went to the mall. I was still in my PJs, no bra, and a skimpy shirt with uncombed hair or brushed teeth. Odd looks came from every angle, and eventually we left, taking the bus back. The fireman said we couldn't go in the apartments for any reason, and I had left my glucometer in there; even they were told they couldn't go in there, no matter what. So we walked three miles to Longs drugs, after walking to the campus health center to get a prescription. Finally, around ten at night, it was over. But it was one of the most fun adventures I have had recently!
